Show up as yourself
Leave your title at the door. What you do for work is one part of you, not all of you.

About
Common Ground is where professionals become people, and people become community.
Mission
This is not a networking group. There are no pitches, no agendas, no forced introductions.
The goal is simple: show up as yourself, let time do the work, and trust that the right things follow.
Why Common Ground exists
I spent seven years in real estate going to networking events, BNIs, young professional groups, and industry mixers. I kept walking away with business cards but not much else.
Looking back, I think I know why. Everyone shows up to those rooms trying to get something. More clients, more deals, more partners. That is the whole point. But a relationship that starts with what can I get from you rarely becomes the kind you actually depend on.
The best relationships in my life, the ones that turned into real business, real friendships, real trust, did not start that way. They started because we just happened to be in the same room, doing the same thing, and we became people to each other before we ever became useful to each other.
That is what I was trying to build when I started Common Ground.
A room where you do not have to lead with your title. Where the reason you are both there is something you actually share, usually movement, a shared experience, something real. Because of that, the connections that form have a different foundation. They were not built on what someone needed. They were built on who someone actually is.
Since we started, members have built business partnerships, genuine friendships, and in a few cases something even more serious. None of it was forced. All of it was organic. That is the whole point.
Values
Leave your title at the door. What you do for work is one part of you, not all of you.
We do not spectate. Shared experience, even awkward or hard, is what builds real bonds.
Every person here is more than a LinkedIn profile. Curiosity over judgment, always.
Success is not cards exchanged. It is who became healthier, wealthier, and more connected.
When someone here wins, we celebrate it. Referrals, introductions, and showing up are currency.
Health, business, and relationships are not separate tracks. Common Ground brings them together.
Manifesto
We live in a world where everyone is performing.
Performing their title. Performing their success. Performing the version of themselves they want others to see.
Common Ground is where the performance ends.
We believe the most powerful thing that can happen between two people is the moment they stop pretending and start being real.
That does not happen at a conference. It does not happen on LinkedIn.
It happens when you are both fumbling through a salsa step. When you are sweating next to someone you just met. When you are making something with your hands and laughing because it looks nothing like the example.
That is when the masks come off. That is when a stranger becomes a person. That is when a person becomes someone you would actually call.
Health. Wealth. Community. Not as goals. As a way of living, together.
Emerging nonprofit frame
As Common Ground grows, the goal is to support the DMV through accessible programming, story-sharing, local partnerships, and service-oriented experiences.
